The Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) allows a parent, custodian, or relative to stay in Australia as the guardian of an international student under 18 years of age who is studying on a student visa. This visa ensures that the student has appropriate welfare arrangements during their stay in Australia.

To be eligible for the Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590), you must be the parent, custodian, or relative (21 years or older) of an international student under 18 years of age. You must have adequate health insurance, meet health and character requirements, and demonstrate that you have sufficient funds to support yourself and the student during your stay.

Required documents include a valid passport, a completed visa application form, evidence of your relationship to the student, proof of sufficient funds, health insurance details, and character certificates. You will also need to provide the student’s Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) and evidence of their welfare arrangements.

Holders of the Student Guardian Visa (Subclass 590) can study an English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students (ELICOS) for less than 20 hours per week or any other course for up to three months. You are not permitted to work on this visa, as your primary role is to provide care and support for the student.
