Temporary Activity Visa (Subcategory 408)

This Provisional Activity Permit authorizes you to engage in select pursuits within Australia for a fixed duration.

Conduct full-time residential labor for designated high-ranking overseas executives
Engage in top-tier sporting activities, inclusive of preparatory training
Pursue opportunities within the entertainment sector
Participate in unique programs designed to strengthen global ties and encourage cultural interchange
Be involved in community or cultural happenings upon the request of an Australian entity
Observe or engage as a scholar within a research endeavor
Be a part of events supported by the Australian government

Prerequisites for Visa Applicants

For those applying from outside Australia

If your stay is intended to be 3 months or less, you should be backed by an organization or individual in Australia who is involved in organizing events or activities and meets the support criteria
You must be backed by an approved sponsor who meets the necessary sponsorship criteria
Possess adequate financial support and medical coverage for yourself and your dependents for the entire duration of your stay in Australia
Meet the specific requirements for the activity you are participating in under this visa

1 July 2014, if a skills assessment is mandatory as part of a visa application, that assessment will only be valid for a period of three years from the date of issue, unless a shorter validity period is specified on the assessment.

However, these changes are not applicable to the Temporary Work (Skilled) (subclass 457) visa.

The following five visas must be applied after receiving the invitation from expression of interest

Business Talent (Permanent) visa (subclass 132).
Business Innovation and Investment (Provisional) visa (subclass 188).
Skilled Independent visa (subclass 189).
Skilled – Nominated visa (subclass 190).
Skilled – Nominated or Sponsored (Provisional) visa (subclass 489).
